I often get asked if motherhood is the MOST wonderful thing in the world. I am always torn which sounds awful I know but it's true. Some days are wonderful but some days are absolutely NOT wonderful. Today falls under the latter of the two.
I got up this morning and it seemed like a hopeful day. I got to sleep in (thanks Shan), showered and brushed my teeth all by 10:00 which is a miracle. I had a docs appointment which I wasn't looking forward to for reasons I won't go into. Shan watched Lucca so I didn't have to worry about it but when I got to my midwife's office there was a note on the door stating she was in a birth and sorry for the inconvenience. At first it I was totally annoyed becuase I had showered and brushed my teeth all before 10 just to be ready but then I realized no one expected me home for an hour. The glee was so overwhelming it took about 5 minutes to even realize what to do with my time.
I decided to run a couple Christmas errands which was great. I had completely forgotten what ease it used to be to drive in silence to a store, get out all by myself, take as long as I wanted and get back in my car to the next store in silence. Awesome!
I got home, fed Lucca and off we went for more Christmas shopping....stressful style. Lucca screamed the entire way to go get Lulu and once there her phone wasn't working so we looped around and around her block while I obsessively called over and over while Lucca continued down meltdown road. Finally I stopped the car to get him out and settle him down. Finally I got in touch with Hilda and she met us downstairs right as Lucca was settling down. There was hope, now Hilda could sit back with him so he wouldn't scream. We get him back in the car seat and downtown we go....oh wait my car won't start. The battery is dead. Oh, what, we're in a tow zone at 3:00pm. Oh, what, my license is expired. Oh, what I don't have jumper cables and neither does anyone else in Seattle. Oh, what it's below freezing outside and snow is expected any minuted. Awesome! So, I held Lucca while Hilda got out of the car and asked every passing patron if they had jumper cables. After about 7 people finally this nice guy who barely spoke English could help us. Neither of us could find my battery so we had to get the owners manual out and two of his friends had to help but we finally got it started. Off we went with Lucca screaming once again all the way home with no Christmas shopping to be had. Needless to say, I was in tears the whole way home. Caring for an infant can be very isolating at times, but nothing is more isolating than knowing your car no longer works...argh!
Well, we just got Lucca down to bed so I'm going out to do my shopping now...alone...in the quiteness of my own thoughts. I can't wait!!!
Merry Christmas!

hello again...
I'm sorry I haven't gotten around to posting in a while. I have lots of new pics of Lucca as we've been a busy family the last month.
For Thanksgiving we had our first road trip to SLC. Lucca did great and it was so nice spending time with the fam. My dad has most of the pics (which he keeps promising to send) but here's one from a hike on Thankgiving morning. Our camera went dead right after this shot.
We also got our first Christmas tree last weekend. Our friend Adam was our RE agent and every year he hosts a party to cut your own tree at a charming tree farm. We have always looked forward to it but especially this year. Adam has pics of the event that I'll post soon....also of our newly decorated tree.
Other new things probably only entertaining to us:
- Lucca has started giggling....it's hard but occasionally he'll do it. Especially with papa!
- He's now a very distracted eater. It's not uncommon for him to completely stop eating and give me a huge grin.
- While in SLC he learned how to "blow raspberries". That's what they call it in my mommies group...but basically if you blow through your mouth to make your lips vibrate he'll mimic you.
- He now graps things and is getting more control over his crazy arms.
- He's sleeping through the night....NOT!
- He spits up a lot and subsequently constantly smells like spoiled milk.
- He thrashes his head while trying to sleep and with his long hair it ends up looking like troll or dog hair. That combined with his spoiled milk smell sometimes makes me feel like a negligent mother. We went to REI tonight and the poor boy looked pretty homeless....love you Lucca :)

Happy Halloween
I was SO excited for Lucca's first Halloween! I spent hours online looking for the perfect pumpkin costume and had visions of strolling down the street with our darling baby boy and everyone stopping to say "what a cute pumpkin."
Well, that's what I get for having such high expectation. One day I'll learn. First, it was pouring out. Second, Lucca was not on his best behavior. I still really wanted to at least put him in his costume so we packed our bags and went to visit the ladies at my old job. Ten minutes in I told Shan I wanted to turn around because traffic was SO bad and Lucca hadn't stopped screaming. But, he said we needed to get out of the house even if it was to sit in traffic with a screaming baby.
The rest of the story speaks for itself! Here are the pictures of Lucca's first Halloween.

His favorite part was putting the costume on. He was SO excited!

Harvest Party
Last weekend we went to Mike's folks house for the annual harvest party. For the last few years we have gone to Judy and Kirks following a day at the pumpkin patch. This year we scratched the pumpkin patch for a day of apple pressing, cooking, pumpkin carving and EATING! It was so much fun -- their property is so beautiful.

Family picture ideas
There's some seriously cute kids stuff that I think would be so cute for pics. Check out these darling EGG baby cable knit layettes with these adorable hats on etsy. You can customize any color on the hats. Lucca is SO getting one of these hats. Chelsea I know you'll be all over these.

These Oeuf leggings would be SO cute on the girls!!!

Lack of Sleep
So we got maybe four hours sleep last night. I don't know if Lucca is going through a growth spurt or what but all he wants to do is eat and then cry until he gets to eat again. I fed him more yesterday than I usually do in two days combined. Needless to say, Shan and I are very tired. I'm only able to post this because Shan got him to sleep in his swing and instead of doing one of the ten things on my list today, I'm on the couch eating breakfast and planning our winter family photo session. Totally dumb, I know.
Anyhow, I've been obsessed over these family photos for a long time. We're going to SLC for Christmas and getting new family photos taken and I really want to do something like this. I just think it's so unique and fun.

So, I'm in search of the sweaters and scarfs. If you come across some let me know.

Wish List for Lucca
I am so obsessed with these bean bags from Cocoon Couture. I know he's not even close to being big enough for his own bean bag but that's ok -- it gives me more time to decide between the owl, monkey or giraffe. So cute!!
